Synthetic fields typically include a significant drainage and storage system below the turf. Synthetic drainage layers are, in theory, a flat pipe underneath the entire surface area of the turf and offer a higher flow rate than natural aggregates. A synthetic drainage layer offers a very high flowing capacity because water must evacuate the system immediately. Synthetic drainage layers are easy to install and can eliminate the use of high quality drainage aggregate altogether.

No matter what the sport, every type of sport field has one thing in common; the playing field needs an engineered system of drainage to maintain a safe and healthy playing surface. Poor drainage can cause the playing surface to become unusable or unsafe.
